These last days before Christmas are some of the busiest in our flower shops. Did you know that Sid's is a full service florist? Almost all of our work is custom arrangements--made to order fresh for each recipient. So as the orders increase for the holidays, so does our work load!

It is really starting to feel like Christmas now that winter storms and cold weather have come to the midwest.  The mild weather was nice while it lasted, but we all knew this was coming sooner or later.  I remember some really cold Decembers when we had to wrap packages double just so they would not freeze before we could deliver them.

One of our customers told me the other day that they remember when Sid's was called The Dutch Farm Stand!  I do not know how many of you knew that Sid's actually did start out as a farm stand selling fresh produce that we grew right here in Palos; later our parents built a permanent building and we were in business as The Dutch Farm Stand. It was behind the farm strand that our Dad--Sid--built his first greenhouses, and we eventually became Sid's Greenhouses.  

An early Christmas favorite going back to the farm stand days are the custom made Sid's Fruit Baskets. We make them year 'round, but they're a major tradition at Christmas.  My mother started out doing all the fruit baskets; later I helped and then my brother Bill took over. (This is a picture of Mom making fruit baskets in the '80s.) 

It is not too late for Christmas decorating, and Sid's still has lots of decorations for indoors and out.  We have fresh cut Christmas trees, live wreaths and greens, and a store full of gift and decorating ideas.
